The Warehouse Manager job is a really important part of the supply chain process. It is the Warehouse Manager who oversees the efficient receipt, storage and despatch of goods.

Working as a Warehouse Manager within the International/Domestic Courier Industry means that you could be handling a wide range of goods for clients from food, clothing, household products, industrial parts, in-fact anything that can be bought or sold.

What does a Warehouse Manager job description include? 

  • As Warehouse Manager, it will be your responsibility to ensure that the warehouse is fit for purpose and meets all health and safety requirements of the company and law.
  • You will be responsible for the management of warehouse operatives and in this capacity, you will be required to manage work schedules which may include a 24/7 work operation.
  • The Warehouse Manger job includes direct liaison with customers, suppliers and transport companies.
  • The management, planning, storage, despatch and receipt of all goods in and out of the warehouse are the responsibility of the Warehouse Manager.
  • The Warehouse Manager must manage stock control and the processing/picking of orders for despatch as well as receiving goods into stock.
  • You will be responsible for the coordination and use of all stock control systems, which are primarily computerised.
  • The Warehouse Manager is usually responsible for the recruitment of staff in the warehouse as well as monitoring staff performance and progress.
  • You will be part of a management team and will be required to contribute weekly/monthly statistical reports detailing the effectiveness and performance of your department against budget.
  • The Warehouse Manager is expected to oversee the planned maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment inline with company budget allocation. 

Key skills and qualifications of a Warehouse Manager: 

  • Depending upon the job, you may be required to have had previous warehouse management experience within International/Domestic Courier services.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • The Warehouse Manager is expected to contribute to the company’s annual financial control plan and therefore you must have good numeracy skills and understand budgetary control and management.
  • Experience in team leadership and training is usually essential in a management role, but depending upon the role, experience within the industry may be sufficient and on the job management training may be provided.
  • A Warehouse Manager must be commercially aware and have excellent negotiating skills.
  • You must be able to problem solve as well as work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • You must be familiar with industry standard software and be familiar with Microsoft Office Suite.
