Job Summary

We are supporting an exciting global brand in their search for a Director, Transportation & Logistics to join their busy office close to Florence in South Carolina. The brand is one of the largest in their sector and are committed to continuous growth and improvement of the business and their staff.

The Director, Transportation & Logistics is responsible for the effective management of the global logistics function within our client’s business and must be able to provide effective and strategic leadership, strive for continuous process improvements and manage cost reduction initiatives.

Role

  • Strategically lead the logistics function for the organization, implementing and exciting strategies that are in line with company goals and targets
  • Take overall responsibility for the efficient transportation of goods across a large number of manufacturing sites
  • Successful management of a large global distribution network, including 3rd party transportation partners, maintaining the balance between great service and cost reduction
  • Design and implement governance processes for the global logistics function that is both effective and sustainable
  • Find and implement solutions to any issues that arise within the logistics function, and strive for continuous improvement in areas such as cost saving, profitability and service delivery
  • Use the latest technology to drive continuous improvement within the logistics department globally, including transportation planning, fleet management and optimization, and freight payment and auditing
  • Work with 3rd party transportation companies, maintaining good working relationships in order to successfully negotiate the best rates and handle and issues that arise
  • Manage cost saving initiatives and successfully deliver these within the business
  • Analyze performance in line with set KPI’s and goals, and create performance management reports internally
  • Take charge of business reviews and performance reviews internally, with various departments and stakeholders
  • Ownership of employee development, including mentoring and coaching as well as hiring new talent for the logistics team

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in logistics and/or transportation, ideally gained within large, global organizations
  • Proven leadership and staff management experience, including staff development, performance reviews, hiring etc., ideally across multiple locations globally
  • Strategic thinker, analytical problem solver
  • Advanced computer skills, and able to utilize technology strategically to make improvements within the business
  • Degree in supply chain or other relevant area is required, Masters or MBA is preferred
  • Able to travel for business purposes (around 20%)
