Job Summary

Our client, an internationally recognised Fine Art Auction House is looking for a Director, Senior Specialist Western & Wildlife Art to join their team in Denver.

The Director, Senior Specialist Western & Wildlife Art will be responsible for overseeing the Western and Wildlife Art department while working closely with colleagues to assist with sales strategies and Business Development.

The successful candidate will have expertise and passion in Western and Wildlife Art.

Director, Senior Specialist Western & Wildlife Art Key Duties:

  • Oversee and manage the department
  • Refine current policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the auction house
  • Act as the senior contact for major client prospects
  • Ensure a seamless client service by collaborating with other departments
  • Develop new opportunities with top dealers, institutions and private collectors
  • Research items for auction and appraise them sufficiently
  • Develop new opportunities within the consignment and buyer sides of the department
  • Assign auction estimates and evaluate property for IRS (Estate tax, Gift tax) and insurance appraisals
  • Work closely with other specialists to promote the auction process, this includes auction previews, executing bids at auction and tracking and communication client interests
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop strategies for new consignors
  • Maintain close working relationships with previous buyers
  • Assist the Western and Wildlife department determine if property is suitable for auction and appropriate for specific properties
  • Work closely with other departments within the business to ensure a cohesive working atmosphere
  • Attend events to share the business and your expertise with Western and Wildlife Art
  • Participate in post-sale reviews

Skills and Experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience within the Western and Wildlife Art specialty
  • Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, Art History or Arts Management
  • Advance degree in the above areas would be advantageous
  • In-depth knowledge of Western and Wildlife Art
  • Advanced language skills or specialty certifications would be advantageous
  • Superior communication skills
  • Proven ability to deliver results
  • Existing client portfolio or willingness to build one
  • Exceptional organisational skills
