Job Summary

Our client, an internationally recognised Fine Art Auction House is looking for an Associate Specialist in Fine Art Appraisals to join their team in the Chicago 

The Associate Specialist will be responsible for supporting the Auctioneers Fine Art Department, specifically Estate Tax appraisals for Sculptures, Prints, Drawings and Paintings. The Associate Specialist will carry out research to ensure that the appraisals are compliant and efficient. 

The successful candidate will have a Wide Range of Fine Art knowledge, ranging from 15th Century through Post-War Contemporary Art! 

Associate Specialist Key Duties:

  • Attend appraisal appointments located in and out of the office
  • Assist with appraisal listings and work closely with the Appraisal and Business Development departments within the Auction House
  • Thoroughly research and catalogue property for appraisals
  • Produce documentation to support all valuations, also ensure that these documents are in accordance with USPAP compliance 
  • Maintain knowledge of current and relevant appraisal guidelines and laws 
  • Work closely with the Director and Fine Art departments to promote Auctions
  • Assist clients at Auction Previews and track their interest in property and their bids 
  • Complete Condition reports 

Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art History, Art Management, or a related field 
  • 5 years experience with Fine Art appraisals and working in the secondary Art Market
  • USPAP Certification and Auction House experience, is strongly desired 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication 
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to multi-task efficiently 
  • Thrives in a fast paced, high energy environment
